Our
transportation South to Kunsan was provided by the BUS FROM
HELL ... driven by none other than, the DRIVER FROM HELL.
It's true. Carson Price, our road manager, claimed the back
seat, assuming he had what we call in the biz, a "sky bed,"
meaning a complete row of seats with nobody in them, which
meant you could stretch out and lay down. WRONG! There were
absolutely no shocks at all on this bus. Every bump was felt
by all, directly from the frame up. The worst spot on the
bus? You got it. In the back. After only 15 minutes,
everyone, including sky bed dude, had moved to the front
seats. It helped some, but not much. Take a look below at
how low it was riding, and that was without anyone in it. If
I recall correctly, it was about a 4 1/2 hour HELL ride.
It
was strange seeing the beauty and foliage of the mountainous
countryside, yet thinking of all the conflict and fighting
that has occurred in those very places. The South is stable
now and people can live in peace, although the potential of
conflict is still there. Maybe in time, they will join their
former countrymen and live in harmony as one nation with the
North. Hopefully it will happen, with a democratic form of
government that is of the people.
Kunsan was the very base where my old friend, Freeman
Batchelor had been stationed when he was in the service. He
studied Hapkido under Mr. Pak, while there.
