After
arriving at Guam's Andersen Air Force base, we were escorted
to our quarters. Guam is a particularly unique island in
respects to WWII. Everywhere you go, you can see remnants of
the war. In fact, while we were there, the road crews for
downtown were installing a sewer main and discovered an
unexploded WWII bomb, right under the middle of the
intersection. All traffic was halted until they could get a
bomb crew out there that could defuse it, if necessary. The
pictures in this Guam section are mainly of the war
artifacts. I don't mean to upset any of our Japanese friends
by including this. History was what it was, and in many
respects, this island is a bit of a World War II museum. On
the South end of the island, there are still foxholes, caves
and artillery, left by the Japanese after the invasion by
the allied forces.
